SAKE OF SOUND

Sake Of Sound began on July 17, 2018, at the Basement Tavern in Santa Monica, California. Longtime friends and collaborators Nathan Kersey-Wilson (keys) and Forrest Mitchell (drums) had linked up with Mason Sacks (guitar), and were playing trio gigs around Los Angeles. When Mason brought Orlando Thompson (bass) to sit in at this show, everything clicked into place and they realized they had no choice but to form a band.

Nathan immediately brought the quartet into his regular gigs at Basement Tavern and Faith & Flower restaurant. On October 22, 2018, the band went in to a 4-hour live recording and video session at Blue Dream Studios. The result of that session is their debut album, Blue Dream Elixir, which was released in December 2019, along with a live in-studio video series.

The four musicians come from a variety of musical upbringings, coming together joyously to create a sound that ranges from intensely funky to calmly reflective- and is always soulful. Their passion is for creating collectively in the moment, letting spontaneous musical serendipity produce the magic. Blue Dream Elixir is a throwback to when albums were recorded unrehearsed and live: as you listen, you hear the creative process happening.

The band continues to perform around Los Angeles is hoping to begin playing out of town soon. Please don’t hesitate to contact about booking, and check out the calendar to come catch a show. The rest of the story is for you to help write- please join us on this journey!

Influences include Herbie Hancock, Roy Ayers, The Bad Plus, John Scofield, Dave Weckl, Weather Report, Vulfpeck, Derek Trucks, etc.
